Nissan Expands Partnership with Heisman Trophy Trust For more than 75 years, the Heisman Trophy “has recognized the top performers in college football,” and Nissan has agreed to continue to financially support the Heisman Foundation’s efforts through the end of 2016. The partnership “aids the Trust in fulfilling its charitable mission to provide opportunities for underserved and disadvantaged youth of our country and returning military service personnel,” said Bill Dockery, Heisman Trustee.

Nissan Sunderland breaks UK manufacturing record The British manufacturing plant makes the Qashqai crossover, the Juke, the Note, and will begin producing the Leaf electric car in 2013. The Nissan Qashqai is the ninth-best-selling vehicle in the UK, and the Sunderland plant employs nearly 5,500 people.

While it might seem like an odd combination, the finished product is nothing short of spectacular. Car and Driver reports that the innovative vehicle is loaded with GT-R wheels, shiny graphite paint, wide fender flares, and a rear wing. All of this is complete with an extra-low & sporty JUKE-like body.

So what’s under the hood of the JUKE-R? Engineers chose the GT-R’s turbo-charged 480hp V6 engine. That’s right, we’re essentially witnessing a Nissan Juke that achieves 480hp – something no car enthusiast could have ever predicted. The team had to go to great lengths just to be able to fit the massive engine into the Juke’s frame, which normally holds the standard 1.6-liter engine.

The 2011 Nissan Juke has turned heads for its unique, sporty look in the crossover category. On Thursday, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) answered a question most forget to ask in light of the Juke’s undeniable style: What about safety?

The IIHS named the 2011 Juke a Top Safety Pick, joining the LEAF, Cube, and Infiniti M37/M56 as the latest Nissan model to be awarded the honor. Top Safety Picks are required to meet the IIHS’s highest rating in front, rear, and side impact protection. They also must be equipped with electronic stability control and receive the highest possible roof ranking.

So what does it take to achieve this ranking? Turns out to not be so simple. Here’s the list:

• Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones
